Coercive control and domestic abuse
Thoughts on domestic abuse and coercive control.
Somewhere to unload my thoughts and worries re our daughter's messed up marriage.
Her husband in definitely controlling but we have just realised how badly. The lockdown has given him opportunity to refine his control under the guise of protecting himself as he is immuno suppressed. She has recently told us that things have been violent at times with physical abuse and objects being thrown.
Horror!
Some verses from the psalms struck me as I was reading the other day.
Psalm 35
4 May those who seek my life
be disgraced and put to shame;
may those who plot my ruin
be turned back in dismay.
5 May they be like chaff before the wind,
with the angel of the Lord driving them away;
6 may their path be dark and slippery,
with the angel of the Lord pursuing them.
26 May all who gloat over my distress
be put to shame and confusion;
may all who exalt themselves over me
be clothed with shame and disgrace.
38
Those who want to kill me set their traps,
those who would harm me talk of my ruin;
all day long they scheme and lie.
40
14 May all who want to take my life
be put to shame and confusion;
may all who desire my ruin
be turned back in disgrace.
15 May those who say to me, “Aha! Aha!”
be appalled at their own shame.
41
9 Even my close friend,
someone I trusted,
one who shared my bread,
has turned[b] against me.
